Childhood

What did you do she asked
Nothing I say

But you must have done something she said
I didn’t I say

But it must have been bad she said
I did nothing I say

But your mother gave you away she said
So what I say

But mothers always keep their babies she said
Who cares I say

Even when they cry, kick and scream mothers keep their babies she said
It doesn’t matter I say

But you must have been very bad she said
Babies aren’t bad I say

But you must have been she said
I wasn’t I say

Then she took her hand
Reached into my chest
Tore out my heart
Ripped it into shreds
And put it back lashed together with the words

But you must’ve done something very bad because your mother gave you away she said

Then she left

BR

Dare I ask how you came into possession of BR's photo she says?
Stalking Facebook I say.

I want it on the record that, regarding BR, my thoughts are purely artistic she says.

Define artistic I say.

Artistic – pertaining to the quality of a particular medium, in this case classical music interpretation she says.

I am speechless I say.

I am thinking of getting a Black and Decker gadget that blows and sucks leaves she says.

Dare I go there? Thinking of BR weren't you I say.

Then there was silence.

Then we laughed hysterically.
